| Takoda Collies was established in the hot deserts of Phoenix, Arizona. Though I have owned collies most of my life, in 2004 I became actively involved in conformation. In 2004, I attended my first Collie National in Springfield, Massachusetts. Little did I know this is where I would meet for the first time two people who would make a huge impact in my life. I had the pleasure of meeting John and Katee Dyer, who to this day, still play an integral part in my life and showing of dogs. After returning home from the 2004 Nationals, I knew more than ever I wanted to own a dog that I could show. However; before I could show a dog or much less be sold a show prospect, I knew I had to learn more about the breed as well as how to handle a dog in the ring. I attended every local show I could find, I found a local mentor (Susan Calvert of Glory Collies), I attended every handling class I could find, I entered matches and I joined three collie clubs (Collie Club of America, Arizona Collie Clan and the Northern Arizona Collie Fanciers). It wasn't until late summer of 2004, that I approached John and Katee Dyer of Caledonia Collies for a show dog. I felt like I was ready now-or at least I felt like I was a small step closer in preparing myself for what would be the adventure of a lifetime! In August of 2004, my beautiful tri boy Blake was on a plane and headed to Phoenix from Caledonia Collies. On March 17th, 2006 I was able to see my first litter of puppies whelped. Though the litter was not mine, it was yet another learning experience that would eventually guide me into the future of collies. This litter was not only special because it was the first time I saw puppies whelped, but I quickly fell in love with a sable smooth bitch that I bought and co-owned with Susan Calvert (Glory Collies) that would eventually become the 2007 Collie Club of America Smooth Winners Bitch and Best of Winners (Champion Wildwood Takoda Glory Us Night ""Mia"). As the years have gone by, I have met many collie fanciers and friends from coast to coast. They have been wonderful stepping stones for me; they have guided me along the way and have cheered me on, they have taken the time to teach me and show me the way. They have spent hours upon hours looking at the 'history books' and going over dogs with me. I feel truly blessed to have met so many people in such a short amount of time that have made a HUGE impact in my life with collies. All of my learning and guidance have come from some very special people who have watched over me and guided me and without them in my life I would not be where I am today. Thank you Susan Calvert (Glory Collies) for teaching me and being my best friend! Thank you John and Katee Dyer (Caledonia Collies) for always believing in me and starting me off with beautiful dogs! Thank you John Buddie for taking the time to believe in a new person and watch over me and guide me! I will forever be indebted to you all. |
